Simba's Keeper

She did not tame the lion. She recognized him.

They share the same markings — white against dark, symmetrical, ancient — because they come from the same place. The same wild. The same knowing. He roars not in warning but in witness, his voice the low thunder that announces her arrival before she speaks a word.

From the crown of her head, flowers erupt in impossible abundance — pink and extravagant, the kind of blooming that refuses to apologize for taking up space. Her headwrap is wrapped in Kente geometry, purple and green and dotted white like the underside of a sky that only certain women can read. She wears it not as tradition but as fluency. She speaks this language without thinking.

Her hand reaches forward, open-palmed — not offering, not asking. Receiving. A gold bangle catches the light at her wrist, a quiet registry of everything she has carried and chosen to keep. Behind them both, a geometric border holds the scene like a frame holds a truth: contained, but only just.

Simba's Keeper is not a painting about power over nature. It is a painting about power as nature — the kind that does not need to be loud because it has never been in question.
