Afro Samurai

Two swords crossed behind her. A skull at her feet. Armour plated in gold. A blue gemstone at her chest pulsing like a second heart. She does not smile. She does not need to. Her expression is the expression of someone who has already calculated every possible outcome of this encounter and found them all acceptable.

Her eyes are heterochromatic — one blue, one gold — which is not a flaw but a feature, the visual proof that she sees the world in two registers simultaneously: the world as it is, and the world as it could be. Her crescent gold nose ring catches the light. Her afro rises like a battle standard, brown and enormous and undefeated.

The orange and green vertical panels behind her are the colours of harvest and forest, of abundance and endurance. The skull beneath her armoured fit is not a trophy. It is a reminder — to herself and to anyone watching — that she has been here before, in harder circumstances, and she is still here. She has always been here. Blades out, eyes open, ready.
