She lifts the cup to her lips the way her grandmother once did — not in haste, but in ceremony.
The teacup is small, painted with a dancing figure that reminds her of the stories told around evening fires. The saucer balances steady in her left hand, a quiet act of composure passed down through generations of women who knew that how you hold a thing matters as much as the thing itself.
Orange paint crosses her eyes like a mask — the kind worn not to hide, but to reveal. The white dots beneath trace the constellation of her lineage. Around her neck, a choker of gold and black, and beads of earth and turquoise that once belonged to someone whose name she carries but never met. The pink cuff on her wrist is borrowed from a mother. The yellow bangle from an aunt.
She is draped in two worlds: one side blazing orange, dotted like the sands of a place she has only seen in dreams; the other deep green, rippling with pink shapes like rivers she has yet to cross. The background hums with blue circles — the rhythm of a drum she has always known but never heard.
This is not a woman drinking tea.
This is a woman tasting memory.
